What is your favourite summer activity in Launceston?
about 5 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Swimming in the Gorge? Having a picnic in City Park? Let us know what you get up to in the warmer months around the city.
MalcolmCover 5 years agoRiding around the Trails
The Trails map is a great initiative and riding around the trails gives up to 25 KM of safe off road riding
0MalcolmCover 5 years agoBall games at First Basin
Why cant an area be designated for ball games in the grass area of the basin. Its a good healthy activity to have kids kicking or throwing a ball and a family game of beach cricket. Many times there is sufficient space for this to occur without infringing on others enjoyment.
0Deb Malorover 5 years agoPunchbowl Reserve
Punchbowl Reserve has many lovely walks, a great play area for kids, a community garden and lots of places to picnic. You can walk from Kings Meadows right through to Norwood along waterways and through bushland. During the week it is less used than at weekends. (It would be lovely to see the Rivulet further cleaned up, along with the mini-gorge in the Reserve grounds).

Take the children to the museum, great on very hot or wet days. Love all the new science experiments. There is a special section on Tasmanian animals along with many other great things to see plus a good cafe.

cityslickerover 5 years agoI have just read your paper on attracting more residents in to the inner city of Launceston. As a resident of the Quadrant Mall, may I add some suggestions? I accept that the choice to live in the inner city clearly involves the acceptance of extra noise,
0brocyover 5 years agoSealing the corners on prossers rd. in Nunamara
Please consider sealing the corners on Prossers Road in Nunamara. The road surface suffers extreme wear due to the continued used of log trucks, causing corrugation and large pot holes, particularly on the corners and rises. In addition to the damage to the road surface there have been two truck roll-overs within the past 18 months on unsealed bends causing in one case the complete blockage of traffic in both directions for several hours. The use of this road as a logging freight route in its current state impacts significantly on the safety of other road users; visibility on most corners is poor, with trucks usually unable to navigate corners safely without cutting the apex or to slow down to allow other vehicles enough room to pass, causing other road users to brake heavily on the loose surface or driving off the road completely to avoid collision. I think that the sealing of the bends (as has been previously completed on the Lilydale end) would considerably improve the safety of this road for all users and reduce the need for constant grading and improve the safety for all road users.

What community services are important to you?
about 5 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded. The City of Launceston offers many services including waste management, immunisation and exercise programs. We want to know which services matter to you and why.Champion the Northalmost 6 years agoEncourage more engagement
I am sorry to say, but this forum is not attracting the people to get a serious feel of what the community wants. The engagement in this space is very much lacking - there should be hundreds, even thousands of votes and lots of ideas to invigorate our community. This looks like the equivalent of an electronic shoe box with a hole in top and "Suggestions" written in black marker on the side! There is not feedback from council, no forum for discussion on the ideas and most importantly no pathway to encourage the involvement - you need some drivers, good stories and sharing of the platform and the reasons why you are doing this out in the community for this to be effective. You have the tools here - you just need to attract the people to be a part of it - maybe engage one of the hipster design folk to drive this - have some competitions, share on social media etc. This is a great idea, but it needs more than just a web page that a handful of people know about.
0meaganalmost 6 years agoPedestrian Crossing East Launceston
The extended trading zone in East Launceston (Relish to Amici's to Maple) is very popular and I've been frequenting the area for a number of months now and have noticed that it is difficult as a pedestrian to cross the road over Abbott St, particularly near Arthur Street - installing a pedestrian crossing would make this a safer area to visit, particularly for the elderly citizens or people with younger children.
0Feebsalmost 6 years agoTip (waste management Centre) vouchers
Ratepayers should be issued with tip vouchers every year. Other councils offer this to ratepayers, and I feel 6 free visits a year per ratepayer would reflect our rates contribution and further encourage responsible rubbish disposal and recycling.
6Madeleinealmost 6 years agoThe Brisbane Street Mall
The Brisbane Street Mall is just depressing! It needs to have a serious overhaul. How about some beautiful big deciduous trees that would provide shade on hot summer days and add some much needed greenery to this space? The trees could also have fairy lights on the branches to help 'liven up' the mall in the evenings. It also needs a child play area. What is there now is boring and there needs to be a space for young children to have a play and some 'time out' when shopping in the city. In addition, there needs to be more 'food options'. There is no where to buy food in the mall (Coffee Republic). How about encouraging cafes into the mall as there is ample space for outdoor dining (which would also add to increasing the ambience), or alternatively food vans!

Sick of neighbourhood cats that roam into my garden to use it for their toilet. In my immediate surrounds there are up to 11 cats all of which roam from their owners property
